Teheran
Stock Exchange
Amid the worldwide abundance of new iconic buildings, the design of the Tehran Stock Exchange intends to form a symbolic presence in the city as well as a true space for exchange.
The building’s distinctive shape results from a careful embedding in its surroundings. By rotating the volume, space is created at its foot for a sheltered public plaza. While trading in shares is an almost invisible activity, different spaces for gathering and discussing are included, formal and informal, public as well as private. The main trading room is situated on the first floor, as centre of attention inside the generous atrium. A restaurant at the top floor grants access to a beautiful view over the city. Elements of traditional architecture, both pre-Islamic and Islamic, reflect the traces of the city’s rich cultural history in its contemporary DNA.
