Arrival: The Island within the Island
Maarten: "We just arrived in our temporary home on Venice’s Giudecca island, historically a place of private palazzos and monasteries. Later this turned into industry: boatyards, artisan workshops, and larger factories for niche goods and textile works. Giudecca has Palladio’s Redentore, but is also home to many residential projects of various famous architects such as Aldo Rossi and Alvaro Siza. We ourselves stay in a small apartment built by Italian architect Cino Zucchi. Giudecca now is said to be a calm place where the Venetian lifestyle can still have a place without too many tourist interrupting. Although increasingly popular for galleries, art-ateliers and expositions. We will have a closer look and let you know!"
"Later more on the start of the W.A.Ve. 2017 workshop…"
