The remodelling of the office interior, a shift from privacy and partition to transparency and openness, is envisioned to support new modes of efficient collaboration and the creation of a strong working community.
As part of the expansion of the organisation – a merging of a number of formerly separated companies – the Oman-based refinery company, Orpic, foresaw the renovation of their headquarters in Sohar. Constructed as two separate buildings, both consisting of a maze of small private rooms, the transformation strategy for the existing complex is primarily geared at connecting; the distinct buildings and isolated workplaces. Contemporary notions of community building and creativity enhancement, achieved through casual interaction, are addressed with the design of shared leisure spaces as well as more informal opportunities for accidental encounter.
