Designed as a fluent red line, a strong gesture along the A2 highway, the new vocational school (VMBO) of the Connect College aims to contribute to the revaluation of this type of education.
The low, elongated volume takes full advantage of the location. The school is arranged around ‘education squares’, and a sports hall and assembly hall that can be combined into one large central space, in the occasion of events or performances. The lower part of the building, where the technical courses are taught, is slightly elevated above the landscape. As these subjects are often overlooked, the space literally puts them on a pedestal. To provide for enough daylight in the wide and long volume, roof lights are made. The continuous horizontal windows offer a magnificent view over the surrounding landscape.
